I’m on a bus this morning with other healthcare workers heading to Washington D.C. to “Take Back the Capitol.” I’m joining thousands of folks across the country that believe like I do, that it is wrong to cut healthcare for seniors and layoff teachers while corporations and billionaires continue to get massive tax breaks.
This week, we’re taking back the Capitol because our democracy has been displaced by a political system where corporate lobbyists write the laws. Many elected officials don’t represent us any more, they represent the wealthiest 1% of America.
As healthcare workers, we’re a critical part of the other 99% of America. We work hard to keep our communities healthy, but when politicians fail to put people back to work and protect important programs like Medicare and Medicaid, staffing gets shorter and our patients get sicker.
We need to make noise and wake up the country!
Follow us here, on Facebook, or Twitter this week for videos, pictures and blog posts from myself and other union members who are taking back our Capitol for the 99%. We’ll be sharing our experiences down here and our thoughts on why healthcare workers need to be part of this movement.
