On August 28th, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. joined 250,000 Americans marching in Washington DC to demand equal rights, good jobs and respect for all, regardless of race. It was there at the Lincoln Monument that he gave his famous ‘I Have a Dream,’ speech, a speech that imagined a better America for the generations to come.
Now 50 years later, despite the progress our country has made over the last half century, we still have a way to go to fulfill the goals of the march.
On Saturday, August 24, 2013, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom, we marched again. We joined tens of thousands of others in Washington DC who share our dream for a better America, for an America where hard-working people are given a fair share of the fruits of their labor.
On Wednesday, August 28th, 2013, we gathered again all over Pennsylvania to honor the dream that flowed from that March 50 years ago. We stood with our partners and demanded that our lawmakers pass a commonsense path to citizenship so that 11 million aspiring Americans can be part of that dream.
And we’ll keep marching and fighting until we all realize the dream of equality, fair-paying jobs and the rights of everyone to pursue the American Dream.
