200 Healthcare Workers and Uninsured Pennsylvanians will Urge Governor Corbett to ‘Stop Being a Turkey, Expand Medicaid Now.’
HARRISBURG, PA — As the Thanksgiving holiday draws near, around 200 healthcare workers, uninsured Pennsylvanians and their allies will hold a demonstration at Governor Corbett’s mansion, urging him to “Stop Being a Turkey” and expand Medicaid so 400,000 Pennsylvanians who lack insurance could get covered by January 1, 2014.
Because Governor Corbett continues to delay the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, he continues to deny hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians a chance to get coverage. Despite options now available through the new online marketplace, thousands of Pennsylvanians do not earn enough to qualify and therefore fall within a dangerous coverage gap. Governor Corbett still has the power to help uninsured Pennsylvanians get access to the care they need by January 1st by accepting federal Medicaid expansion funding.
Demonstrators will share personal stories of why Medicaid expansion is vital to the future of their patients and their families before delivering a life-sized turkey to Governor Corbett with a message to ‘Stop denying Pennsylvanians’ access to healthcare services and delaying care that they need now. It’s time to expand Medicaid before January 1st.”
