FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 7, 2018
Harrisburg – The Service Employees International Union Pennsylvania State Council, representing nearly 80,000 workers across Pennsylvania, proudly announces its endorsement for Dr. Greg Edwards, Democrat running for Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District.
“Dr. Greg Edwards has been an unwavering advocate for the union rights of working people at a time of unprecedented attack by our nation’s wealthiest special interests. He understands that good, union jobs lift up working standards for everyone and gives healthcare workers the power to create safer, quality care for our most vulnerable citizens,” said Matt Yarnell, President of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania. “SEIU is proud to support Dr. Edwards for Congress as he advances his vision of creating more fair, inclusive and equitable communities for all families in the Lehigh Valley.”
“As a nursing home worker, having a union means having power to advocate for ourselves and for our residents,” said Jackie Roberts, a nursing home worker from Allentown and a member of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania. “That’s why we need elected representatives like Dr. Greg Edwards who will fight with us to protect our union rights and I’m excited to do my part to help him win.”
“It is an honor to receive the endorsement of SEIU, a union that truly understands the intersectional nature of racial justice and economic justice and champions the cause of workers who are most often undervalued and overlooked,” said Dr. Greg Edwards. “I look forward to working with SEIU and continuing to build the momentum of our people powered grassroots campaign that will propel our victory in November.“
From now until the election on May 15, SEIU members will be hitting the streets, knocking doors, registering voters, and turning out the vote for candidates like Greg Edwards, who are committed to helping workers organize to improve their jobs and their communities.
