SEIU Endorses Jim Kenney for Mayor of Philadelphia

Posted on March 26, 2015

PHILADELPHIA — SEIU, the largest and fastest growing union in America, representing over 75,000 property service, healthcare, public and  laundry workers in Pennsylvania, today announced their endorsement of Jim Kenney for Mayor of Philadelphia.

“The women and men who devote their lives to taking care of
Philadelphians know that Jim Kenney will fight for good jobs and a
healthy city for all,” said Neal Bisno, President of SEIU Healthcare
Pennsylvania, the state’s largest union of nurses and healthcare
workers.

“Cities are electing strong progressive leaders like Jim Kenney, who put an end to “stop and frisk” and support airport workers, public schools and a $15-an-hour minimum wage,” said Gabe Morgan, Pennsylvania Director of SEIU32BJ, the largest property service workers union in the country. “Kenney represents Philadelphia’s best hope at beating back the income inequality that destroys our communities. His relentless commitment to fight this battle separates him from the pack.”

“I’m honored to have the support of such hardworking Philadelphians,” added Kenney. “32BJ and Healthcare PA members take on some of the most difficult jobs in our society and too often are faced with disrespect and unfair conditions. As mayor, I’ll fight for the right of all Philadelphians to earn a living wage and safe, fair working environment.”

SEIU, with thousands of members who live and work in the city, is the largest private sector union in Philadelphia. Known for its ability to mobilize in local elections and its activist membership, SEIU will drive a large field program to support Kenney and its other endorsed candidates.
