Earlier this month, members at several long term care facilities across Pennsylvania celebrated a series of victories for both workers and residents at their respective homes.
At Riverside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor, Pa. members used their collective power to get results, winning a strong new union contract that provides wage increases, education and training, and affordable health insurance! Strong contracts like the one Riverside workers fought for ensures that residents get the skilled, experienced care they deserve.
Soon after Riverside members ratified their contract, members at Twin Lakes Rehabilitation and Health Care (formerly known as Mountainview Specialty Care) in Greensburg, Pa. reached a three-year agreement with the new owners of the facility. The new contract includes increases of up to 5% for some members, more paid time off, and inclusion in the union health and welfare plan — a much better health plan than they’re previous one. It will also help Twin Lakes stabilize its workforce and reduce agency costs, improving care for residents.
In the same week, LPNs at Hamilton Arms Center in Lancaster, Pa., voted to make their voices heard in their workplace by coming together to form their union. At the same time, 120 LPNs, CNAs, Activities Aides, Dietary Aides, Housekeepers and Maintenance Workers at Aristacare at Woodland Park in Orbisonia, Pa. formed their union without even voting. Thanks to the strength of their conviction, management recognized their union without objection!
Let’s welcome our new sisters and brothers at Hamilton Arms and Woodland Park and congratulate everyone on their hard-fought victories on behalf of their residents.
