Throughout history in the U.S. unions have been the driving force for improving conditions not just for union members, but for all working people.
As a healthcare worker’s Union we are committed to leading improvements for our patients, residents, healthcare workers as well as improving our communities for everyone.
However, union density is at the lowest it’s been in a century, and we can see the result of this decline every day. Millions have lost their homes to foreclosure and even more are still without jobs. Yet, the average CEO in the U.S. makes nearly 475 times what an average worker makes, and the corporations that they’re leading aren’t playing fair either. They avoid paying their fair share of taxes by lobbying for loopholes and tax cuts while their political allies cut funding for nursing homes, schools, roads and bridges.
In 2011, average Americans started to stand up to the stark injustices that working families are facing.
In 2012, SEIU member leaders will start to turn our country around!
What is the Leadership Institute?Â
The 2012 Leadership Institute is a 3-day intensive leadership development program that will give member leaders the skills to join together with our co-workers and our communities to turn our country around and to bring more workers into the union.
Goals of the Leadership Institute:
- Provide in-depth assessment and skills for individual Leadership Development.
- Provide tools for member leaders to help engage and activate our co-workers to help build strong chapters and a stronger labor movement.
- Discuss the role of the labor movement in our communities, in healthcare, and the political and legislative arena and help shape our local union’s vision and role in the labor movement.
Requirements and Expectations for Participation in the Leadership Institute:
The Member Leadership and Action Institute will be held Wednesday, July 18 at 10:30 AM through Friday, July 20, 2012 at 4:00 PM at the Embers Hotel, 1700 Harrisburg Pike, Carlisle, Pennsylvania 17015.
