West Penn Hospital Nurses Join SEIU Healthcare PA for a Stronger Voice

Posted on August 18, 2020

PITTSBURGH— Registered nurses at West Penn Hospital formed their union with SEIU Healthcare PA, joining the nearly 4,700 other Allegheny Health Network nurses, technical, clerical, and service workers that are already members. There are over 700 registered nurses at West Penn Hospital.

“As West Penn nurses, we love our hospital and are proud of the work we do every day to help make it successful.  Registered nurses, along with the entire team of caregivers and staff,  are the heart and soul of West Penn. Especially with what we’re seeing across the country with COVID, we formed a union to make sure that frontline nurses always have a strong voice in decisions that affect our patients and the care we provide. We’re so excited that we’ll be able to collaborate with management to improve the hospital that we love, and work with other union nurses across Allegheny Health Network to set the standard for nursing in Pittsburgh,” said Denise Novack, a registered nurse in West Penn’s Neonatal ICU.

“We’ve seen the progress that nurses have made by working together as a union with the hospital, around quality, staffing, and professional standards. We are excited to work directly with management here at West Penn so our patients continue to get the highest quality care.  Now more than ever, our hospitals and our healthcare system need nurses to have a strong voice in every aspect of healthcare delivery,” said Brianna Wise, RN in the OR.
