Essential Caregivers and Frontline Healthcare Workers Volunteer to Elect Champions for #UnionsForAll and Working Families
(March 26, 2022) – Across Pennsylvania SEIU Healthcare leaders and essential caregivers hit the doors to canvas this weekend to elect and support our champions running for elected office.
In Philadelphia, member leaders canvassed for Roni Green’s race for State Representative and also knocked doors for State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta’s run for the U.S. Senate.
In Pittsburgh, we launched canvasses to support Summer Lee’s race for Congress in the 12th District.
In Harrisburg, workers door knocked for State Rep. Patty Kim (District 103).
Lastly, in Scranton, caregivers such Krysten Xanthis, a home leader, explained to Congressman Matt Cartwright the importance that essential healthcare workers receive the funding we need.
“As essential workers, we must have our rights respected to join a Union, our voices heard, and our votes counted. That’s why home care leaders are getting involved in this year’s election like never before because we have the power to transform our long term care system by choosing who we want to represent us in Washington and in Harrisburg,” said Krysten Xanthis. “We’re working hard to re-elect Congressman Cartwright and Attorney Josh Shapiro as Governor because they value and respect home care workers.”
“Essential caregivers know that after two years of working during this COVID pandemic, it is ‘up to us’ to shape our future,” said Krysten Xanthis.
We are at a critical moment of transformation in all aspects of our lives – politically, economically, and socially.
The question is, who do we as essential workers want to elect, on all levels of government, to lead this transformation?
We, as essential caregivers, are putting our energy into supporting elected officials and candidates up and down the ballot who are true champions for #UnionsForAll because every worker deserves real opportunity and a voice on the job!
HCPA leaders and volunteer knock doors for State Rep. Patty Kim, 3/26/22.We are proud to lead a movement for all working families in our communities, at our jobs, and yes, getting involved in politics and this year’s election.
