On October 19th and 20th, we held our 2021 Leadership Assembly virtually for the first time ever to ensure everyone’s health and safety. And wow, what an incredible event!
The Leadership Assembly is that time every two years when frontline nurses and public health professionals, hospital and nursing home workers, and in-home caregivers gather from across the Commonwealth. It’s our time to get together, get organized, and get going with the work of building our union. The assembly is the biggest and most important gathering of caregivers in Pennsylvania.
This year, we lifted up the leadership of healthcare workers on the frontline and outlined our mission to:
- Build strong union chapters across Pennsylvania;
- Organize a working class movement to change Harrisburg and Washington, DC;
- Win safe staffing and backup support for homecare;
- Fight for fair funding for healthcare, public services, and homecare;
- Finally defeat COVID-19; and
- Create social, economic, and racial justice for all!
On Day 2 of the Assembly, we held a series of workshops to learn valuable skills on how to address issues in the workplace, build stronger chapters for stronger contracts, and how we can help lead the way for even more caregivers to form their union.
We also learned about important legislation that will help tackle the staffing crisis and the leaders we can elect who will support those efforts.
It all starts with a conversation. We organize to bring people together so that we learn that together and find our power. We are the change we need!
Next Steps: Winning Safe Staffing
We are closer than we’ve ever been to getting safe staffing in our hospitals and nursing homes. Caregivers across the Commonwealth are demanding that our elected leaders in Harrisburg step up, stand with us:
- Everyone:Â Sign the community petition.
- Hospital Members:Â Sign our open letter.
- Nursing Home Members:Â Sign up to meet with elected leaders near you.

Judges Matter for Caregivers
