UPDATE ON EFFECTS & NEW CONTRACT BARGAINING

EFFECTS BARGAINING UPDATE

CHS continues to stall and create hurdles to any real progress in our bargaining at Tyler Hospital, but we are committed to continuing to meet with management and bargain in good faith.

On Sept. 29th, we met with management and still have no agreement! The hospital refuses to pay any severance or offer any health insurance coverage for employees who are leaving due to the closure of Tyler Hospital. Our next bargaining date will be scheduled by Federal Mediation Services.

NEW CONTRACT BARGAINING

We are continuing to bargain on behalf of those of us who will work at the new iteration of Tyler Hospital here in Tunkhannock.

Management could have begun these negotiations by continuing our existing contract and protections but instead chose to start from scratch, throwing out all we have fought and won for caregivers and patients at our hospital. This is an all-out attack on our union!

Management’s current proposals would:

  • Weaken our healthcare protections;
  • Allow them to change our schedules at any time for any reason;
  • Combine job duties whenever they feel it “necessary;”
  • Allow them to adjust your hours without bargaining over the changes;
  • Weaken our job security;
  • Limit wage increases to 1.25% despite a wage freeze since 2020!

We’ll be meeting on Monday, Oct. 11th at 5pm and 8pm to review the proposals in detail and discuss strategy and next steps. Make a plan to join us and fight for the wages, benefits, and protections you deserve!
