This election matters because my life matters. My kids and grandkids are the future and who gets in office matters for them. I don’t want the clock to go back on all the successes we’ve had.
That’s why I’m working as a Member Political Organizer. I want to help elect Hillary Clinton so we can continue President Obama’s legacy. I want a president who will fix the Affordable Care Act, not repeal it. I want a president who will stand with me – as a mother, as a care worker, and as a union member.
I’ve worked in a nursing home for 17 years. It’s hard work, both physically and emotionally. I help people with bathing and toileting, help with physical activity, and I’m an emotional support, listening to people’s stories and needs. And it’s only getting harder, as more and more of the nursing home residents are younger people in treatment for drug addiction or other issues. But I know that my work is essential, so every day I stay positive and do the best work I can. Sometimes I want to throw in the towel, but I’m dedicated and I know that people need me.
The same is true of my work as a Member Political Organizer – the work can be challenging and elections can feel negative, but this work is important for our communities and our families. As a MPO, I’m making sure people are registered and have a plan to vote so our voices will be heard. We all need to get out there on Tuesday, November 8, and win this together.
Your vote matters. If you don’t vote, it’s like handing a vote to the other side. And do you really want a president like Donald Trump? I want a president like Hillary Clinton – someone who is going to work as hard as she possibly can for us.
When we unite to make our voices heard, we have power. That’s the power of our union – we are stronger together. That strength can make real change for our families, our communities, and our jobs.
I don’t think of myself as a political person, but this election means a lot to me. I care about immigration reform. We need immigrants in this country – they do hard, necessary work and contribute to our communities. I don’t want a president who would break up families. I want to elect Hillary Clinton so we can fix our immigration system and keep families together.
I can’t wait to vote for Hillary Clinton – a woman! – for president on Tuesday, November 8. I hope you realize how important your voice is and join me.
