We have never faced a challenge like COVID-19. Every day, healthcare workers risk their own lives, health, and that of their families to provide care. Too many have done this without having access to testing, without paid sick time, without the support of management, and without proper PPE.
Their courage demands recognition and their experiences call for change. In the past few weeks, SEIU Healthcare PA members have spoken to countless reporters to sound the alarm on unsafe conditions:
Hospital Cleaners are the unsung heroes in the fight against coronavirus (Debbie Johns, Liz Mitchell, EVS)
It Didn’t Have to be This Way (Maureen Casey, RN)
Anguished nurses say Pennsylvania hospital risked infecting cancer patients, babies and staff with covid-19 (Moses Taylor Hospital nurses)
‘It’s a profession that does not love you back’: Nursing home staffs bear witness to staggering death tolls (Julie Moore, CNA)
For this nursing assistant, fighting coronavirus means caring for those ‘asking God to take them home’ (Tisheia Frazier, CNA)
