(Pittsburgh, PA) – SEIU Healthcare PA celebrates Sara Innamorato’s primary victory for Allegheny County Executive.
Innomorato’s historic victory gives working families and essential healthcare workers the platform to hold corporate power accountable and deliver real results to more than 1.2 million Western Pennsylvania residents and over 130 municipalities in the region.
“It is crystal clear that voters are propelling candidates like Sara Innamorato to victory who are championing working families’ issues. Even more impressive, voters are demanding real accountability for UPMC and their anti-union tactics that harm workers and the people who seek care in our hospitals,” said Matt Yarnell, President of SEIU Healthcare PA. “Our essential healthcare workers, together with consumers and our elected champions, continue to demand and build a healthcare system and economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.”
Over the last three years healthcare workers have elected Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, Congresswoman Summer Lee, and now Sara Innamorato as the Democratic nominee for Allegheny County Executive who have all won competitive, high-stakes elections on a message centered on fighting for all working families and holding UPMC, our region’s largest employer, accountable.
SEIU Healthcare PA members continue to deepen relationships with the community and show that healthcare workers are a powerful and trusted voice in our region.
“Elected officials and voters are proving that a thriving and growing Western Pennsylvania is possible if we challenge the power, influence, and money of huge corporations like UPMC,” said Yarnell. “We are effectively building a movement where everyone wins and all voices are heard and have a seat at the table. That’s what Sara’s victory showed us tonight! We couldn’t be more excited for her and the opportunities this creates for the working people of Allegheny County.”
The general election is Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
