Our union is a democratic organization. Members hold leadership positions at every level and are elected by our co-workers.
Elections are currently being held for District Officers and Executive Board members.Â
Because the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting some local union operations and limiting the ability of members to interact with each other in person, the District Election Committee is giving candidates the option of running individually or running as part of a slate in the 2021 District Election. If candidates decided to run as part of a slate, they will be able to collect signatures on one nomination petition containing all the slate’s candidates’ names, rather than every candidate on the slate having to separately collect the required number of signatures on their own individual petition. This applies to both District Office and Executive Board nominations.
Description of Elected Positions
Executive board members generally meet in or near Harrisburg at least five (5) times a year to oversee the overall business of the union including the union’s budget and finances, recommending changes to the union’s constitution and by-laws, and making decisions about the union’s programs.
District officers oversee the statewide functioning of the union on a day-to-day basis and are full-time positions. Responsibilities include implementing the union’s programs, supervising staff, and supporting chapter leaders.
All elected leaders are expected to attend the union’s biennial Leadership Assembly.
