Working Pennsylvanians across the state are calling for a fair state budget, restored funding to public schools, and a $15 minimum wage.
Emmaus, PA – On Wednesday, parents, healthcare workers, and students will be speaking out at State Representative Justin Simmons’ office in response to years of budget cuts and fiscal mismanagement under the Corbett administration that created a $2 billion budget deficit, an educational system in disarray and too many families struggling to make ends meet.
“The political in-fighting over the budget has gone on too long,” said Rachael Herczeg, a licensed practical nurse at Phoebe Ministries in Allentown. “It’s time our legislators put aside partisan bickering and passed a fair budget for Pennsylvania that funds our schools, raises the minimum wage and focuses on raising revenues over cutting services.”
As part of a statewide day of action on Wednesday, June 22, citizens are calling for a fair state budget, restored funding for Pennsylvania schools and good jobs with family-sustaining wages. A $15 an hour minimum wage would raise families out of poverty and mean hundreds of millions of additional dollars in the state budget to reinvest in schools and vital human services.
