SEIU Statement on 2015/2016 Budget
Harrisburg – In response to today’s action on the 2015/2016 Budget, the SEIU PA State Council issued the following statement:
“While the impasse over this year’s budget may be over, the fight to move Pennsylvania forward certainly is not. Next year, Pennsylvania will face a structural deficit of $2 billion. Unless there are sustainable revenue increases, the General Assembly will be balancing our budget through devastating cuts to education, human services while homeowners suffer from massive property tax increases.
“It is time for Republican leaders to govern responsibly and work with Governor Wolf on a budget that meets Pennsylvania’s needs. Forcing the state into a crisis situation in order to avoid a compromise is political cynicism at its worst. The commonwealth deserves better.
“In 2014, SEIU members worked night and day to elect Governor Wolf because they share his vision for a better Pennsylvania. We will continue to work with the Governor to pass a budget that gives every Pennsylvanian a fair shot.”
