Congressman Smucker wants to “build a better future;” hundreds of healthcare workers plan to show him how
LANCASTER, PA – Nearly 500 healthcare workers, members of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, will march on Congressman Lloyd Smucker’s Lancaster office this Friday to deliver plans for a better future for Pennsylvania and our country.
Congressman Smucker claims to want to build a better future for our children, but he has repeatedly sided with corporations, big banks, and industrial polluters against the interest of Pa.’s working families. Smucker has remained a steadfast opponent of unions and now he has sided with President Donald Trump in his cruel and misguided efforts to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) —efforts that our own State Attorney General says violate the rule of law.
Pennsylvania’s healthcare workers are marching on Smucker’s office to stand up for immigrant justice and workers’ rights, and advocate for access to healthcare for all — the building blocks of a truly better future for all Pennsylvanians.
Healthcare workers will be joined by several grassroots community organizations including Make the Road PA, One Pennsylvania, PA Together, Pennsylvania Health Access Network, Power Northeast, Put People First, America Votes, Planned Parenthood, and ADAPT (American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today).
WHO: Hundreds of healthcare workers, union members, and allies.
WHAT: Rally against Congressman Lloyd Smucker’s “plans” for Pennsylvania’s future.
WHEN / WHERE: Friday, Sept. 15, 11:30 a.m. at Smucker’s Lancaster office, 51 S. Duke Street, Suite 201, Lancaster, PA 17603

About SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania
SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania is the state’s largest and fastest growing union of nurses and health care workers, uniting nearly 45,000 nurses, professional and technical employees, direct care workers, and service employees in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, home and community-based services, and state facilities across the Commonwealth. Together, we work to protect patient care, expand access to quality health care for all, and to lives of health care workers. We accomplish these goals by organizing non-union health care workers, driving industry standards in our contracts and fighting for legislation that affects health care in our state. SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania is affiliated with SEIU Healthcare, part of the Service Employees International Union which represents 2.1 million working people in health care, public services, and property services.
