Healthcare Reform At Work
The historic healthcare reform legislation we worked for more than a decade to pass is already making a difference in the lives of millions of Americans.
In less than one year, the real work of delivering the benefits of reform is moving forward in our states, hospitals and healthcare centers. On the front lines of our healthcare system, the more than one million nurses, doctors, and healthcare workers of SEIU are focused on delivering the benefits of reform and working to improve the quality of care.
New Year, New Benefits
Now more than ever, working Americans cannot afford to have the benefits of the new law taken away from them.
Our members are reaching out to their patients, friends and neighbors to tell them about the key benefits of healthcare reform, including:
- Ensuring that children under age 26 can get coverage through their parent’s policy.
- Ending discrimination based on pre-existing conditions.
- Preventing insurance companies from ending or denying coverage if patients get seriously sick or ill.
- Making health insurance more affordable to millions of working Americans and small businesses through sensible tax credits.
- Reducing prescription drug costs for seniors and taking on waste, fraud, and abuse in the Medicare program.
- Expanding quality, affordable healthcare coverage to 32 million Americans, including 15 million children.
Do you have more questions on what health care reform means for you and your family? Ask Dr. Lewis! Dr. L. Toni Lewis, the chair of SEIU Healthcare started a blog to answer SEIU members’ questions about the health care reform law. Submit you question to Dr. Lewis at http://action.seiu.org/askadoctor.
Reform is Under Attack!
Now, rather than focusing on creating the kind of good jobs America needs, Republicans want to waste time and taxpayer dollars to take away the lifesaving benefits and insurance protections of the law, and put insurance companies back in charge.
