Position: Long-Term Care Policy and Research Analyst
Role: The Long-Term Care Policy and Research analyst is a position in SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania with responsibility, under the direction of the Director of Homecare and Director of Nursing Homes, for providing strategic research to advance organizing campaigns, support collective bargaining, assess policies, and other research as needed to advance the goals of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania as it relates long-term care.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Long-Term Care Lead Analyst performs a wide range of duties which include but is not limited to:
- Take initiative on research to help advance organizing and bargaining campaigns with a special focus on long-term care.
- Investigate the corporate structure, finances, regulatory information and data, and other employer documents for relevant long-term care providers.
- Develop reports suitable to various audiences including internal leadership, the general public, media, and legislators.
- Make strategic recommendations for long-term care policy development based on well-researched evidence.
- Monitor and analyze the long-term care industry changes and trends and government legislation, policies, and regulations and their impact on long-term care workers.
- Develop public policy positions on healthcare access, financing, workforce development, quality, and other key issues.
- Collaborate with healthcare stakeholders and allies to develop policy and build coalition efforts to advance economic and social justice.
- Perform other duties as needed to support the local union and its mission.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to tackle research problems of financial, economic, political, or social nature, including quantitative analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to connect campaign strategy concepts to research and policy.
- Ability to analyze public sector or private corporate finances.
- Effective communication and writing skills to share research findings and policy suggestions across various internal and external audiences.
- Leadership and sound judgment in sensitive political environments.
- Knowledge of spreadsheets, data storage, and transfer systems, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, and under tight deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple research and policy projects at once.
- Undergraduate or higher degree in economics, health policy, public policy, or social science is not required but is a plus.
- Experience in labor movement as an organizer or in healthcare is preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice and the cause of labor.
Compensation: Competitive salary package on an experience-based scale that ranges from $60,000-$80,000+ depending on years of relevant experience; benefits package includes fully employer-paid health insurance, a defined-benefit pension, optional 401(k), etc.
Travel and Other Expectations:
- Periodic travel to and work in Harrisburg as well as occasional travel around or outside Pennsylvania.
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required.
- Willingness to work long and irregular hours as needed for the campaign.
- Proof of Covid-19 vaccination as subject to applicable law.
