In our union, healthcare workers advocate together to improve our work, our lives, and the lives of everyone we care for. This happens in the day-to-day care we provide, and at the negotiating table. It also happens beyond the bedside, when we take our advocacy to decision-makers in our communities, state, and nation, and demand new or updated policies that improve care, jobs, and our communities.
At times, the union is able to provide leadership development opportunities for members to engage more deeply in this political work to improve our jobs and healthcare in the state. Member Political Organizers (MPOs) are union members who take temporary leave from work to dedicate full- or part-time hours to this political advocacy.
This year, we face a crucial election for the future of organized workers in Pennsylvania. Voters this year will choose who will be our next Governor and the choice could not be more clear. Josh Shapiro is fighting to build stronger unions raise up the voices of working people and fight for fairness across Pennsylvania. The opposition hopes to take away workers rights and end the right to have a union. In order to win this year we need to organize into the 2022 election around our core demands of strong unions, safe staffing, and fair funding. Our Member Political Organizer positions this year will be focused on leadership development and deepening our bench of political activism across our union.
